The Department of Surgery is dedicated to providing quality patient care and advanced educational programs, and to conducting innovative research that will advance the future of surgical practice. The department is comprised of 10 divisions and offers numerous prominent surgical residency training programs.
Each year, more than $1 million in extramural grants supports the department's long tradition of involvement in both basic and clinical research. A number of research studies are conducted in collaboration with other departments of the School of Medicine, including the Department of Medicine and its divisions of gastrointestinal and liver diseases, infectious diseases, and oncology.
The primary locations of the department's programs are the Keck Medical Center of USC, USC/Norris Cancer Hospital, Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, and the LAC+USC Medical Center.
