LAC + USCCritical patients are immediately taken to the Resuscitation Area of the emergency department, which can accommodate up to 12 critical patients at any one time. When this scenario occurs, as it frequently does on weekend nights, the ER becomes a very busy place. Emergency room physicians and surgeons work together in this area to stabilize and quickly resuscitate the trauma or the emergency surgery patient. It is here that the decision to immediately intervene, transport to the OR, triage to the SICU or the surgical admitting ward is made.
