Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery
Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is used for most benign conditions including
colorectal polyps, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis,
rectal prolapse, and in some cases, it may also be used with colorectal
cancer surgery.
Robotic Surgery
In robotic-assisted surgery, small incisions are made that are used to place mechanical surgical tools into the patient’s body. The surgeon looks into a three-dimensional magnified viewfinder to perform the surgical procedure. The surgeon places his fingers around controls on the robotic console. These movements are translated to the robot "hands." The robot hands then make precise movements, following every move of the surgeon: cutting, clamping and sewing just as the surgeon would do.
Robotic surgery is used for similar conditions that are treated with laparoscopic surgery.
Dr. Kaufman has experience with both laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He will discuss these surgical options with patients.
