Pruritus ani

Pruritus ani is anorectal itching. Because of scratching and rubbing, the skin around the rectum may become inflamed, leathery, and red or white in color. A common cause of anorectal itching is diet. Certain foods and beverages such as chocolate, tomatoes, peppers, spices, shellfish, coffee, tea, and cola tend to cause itching. Treatment may include a prescribed ointment to be applied to the affected area.
