Heart Assist Devices

Abiomed BVS 5000

This advanced machine helps with the body’s circulatory system. The system is used worldwide for temporary left, right, or biventricular (both ventricles) support in patients with potentially reversible heart failure. This air-driven blood pump, which can be used as a bridge to another device or as a bridge to heart transplantation, is placed outside the body. Two tubes come out of the chest, are attached to the bed or IV pole, and are then inserted to a console that serves a circulatory system. A unique feature of this system is its dual-chamber design, which is similar to the natural heart.
