About USC Cardiothoracic Surgery
Visionary Education
Being a visionary practice means passing the torch of clinical and research excellence to the next generation of surgeons. Our goal as a university-based practice is to create a stimulating environment for young people to get excited and involved in the field of cardiothoracic medicine. Through our distinguished training program, we are leaving a legacy for Southern California and indeed the nation. These are future leaders -- those who will continue to provide vision in the field of cardiothoracic surgery for decades to come.
Our training program involves:
Medical Students
An innovative cardiothoracic surgery rotation allows medical students to receive "hands-on" experience in the operating room, broadening their surgical horizons. This rotation is extremely popular with third and fourth year medical students, giving them exposure to this challenging profession.
Residents
Through their experiences with USC Cardiothoracic Surgeons, residents learn the intricacies of the heart and become leading cardiac surgeons who practice throughout the country.
Fellows
Fellows receive additional post-residency training in programs that focus on adult and on pediatric cardiothoracic surgery.
