Bronchoscopy

A bronchoscopy uses a thin, lighted tube (bronchoscope) inserted through the nose or mouth to examine the breathing passages at the entrance to the lungs, as well as collect lung secretions or biopsies (tissue samples).

A bronchoscopy is recommended if the patient is coughing up blood, or is diagnosed with a lung disease that requires an inspection of the breathing passages or collection of tissue samples from the airways.
