CardioVascular Thoracic Institute
CardioVascular Thoracic Institute Under the leadership of Vaughn A. Starnes, MD, the USC CardioVascular Thoracic Institute offers a full range of programs and services to address the scope of cardiovascular concerns. We offer state-of-the-art screenings and diagnostics, innovative, non-invasive treatments and specialized therapies including transplant surgery.

Cardiac Surgery
Cardiac SurgeryThe USC Cardiothoracic Surgeon's Group, working within the USC Keck School of Medicine's Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, is and has been a leader in the surgical treatment of the entire field of both adult and pediatric cardiovascular disease for more than 10 years. Under the leadership of the department's chairman, Dr. Vaughn A. Starnes, the members of the USC Cardiothoracic Group have performed more than 15,000 open-heart surgeries with outstanding outcomes.

Thoracic Surgery
Thoracic SurgeryThoracic surgery encompasses surgery on the chest wall and organs contained within the thoracic, or chest, cavity. The foregut includes the esophagus, stomach, and proximal small intestine. Together, these organs work to prepare food and fluids for absorption by the remainder of the bowel, and to prevent reflux of gastric acid, bile, and pancreatic secretions backwards into the esophagus. Often times correcting a disorder of one of these organs requires restructuring or altering one or more of the other foregut organs.

Colorectal Surgery
Colorectal SurgeryThe Division of Colorectal Surgery is a premier academic institution for comprehensive evaluation and treatment of all diseases of the colon, rectum, small bowel, as well as anorectal disorders and pelvic floor dysfunction. The nationally recognized expertise includes state-of-the-art care and technology in minimally invasive and robotic surgery as well as complex and reconstructive procedures for cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and benign disorders. Services are provided across traditional referral boundaries in multidisciplinary collaboration with other specialists from gastroenterology, oncology, urology, gynecology, and radiology.
Upper GI and General Surgery
General and Laparoscopic Surgery The division of Upper GI and General Surgery is composed of the sections of Upper GI Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Breast / Soft Tissue Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, General Surgery and the Hernia Institute of USC. Our surgeons at USC employ many diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that are not available at any other center in the region. The team has one of the most experienced minimally invasive surgical teams in the US and specializes in all forms of laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
Hepatobiliary, Pancreas & Abdominal Organ Transplant
Hepatobiliary, Pancreas & Abdominal Organ TransplantThe USC Division of Hepatobiliary, Pancreas and Abdominal Organ Transplant at the Keck School of Medicine consists of health care professionals who specialize in the following hepatobiliary and pancreatic procedures: live donor liver transplant, liver transplantation, liver surgery, pancreatic surgery, gallbladder and bile duct surgery, portal hypertension surgery and bloodless surgery.
Pediatric Surgery
Pediatric SurgeryUSC Surgeons offer a complete spectrum of care for pediatric disease. Treatment and consultation for children takes place at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). USC Surgeons are specialists in the care of children. Areas of specialty include neonatal cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric surgery, thoracic surgery and heart and lung transplantation.

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Plastic and Reconstructive SurgeryThe division of plastic and reconstructive surgery has 9 full-time faculty surgeons and over 20 affiliated faculty providing expertise in every facet of plastic surgery. This includes breast reconstruction, extremity reconstruction, hand surgery, pediatric plastic surgery including craniofacial and cleft lip and palate, burn injury and reconstruction, and cosmetic surgery.

Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical CareLAC+USC Medical Center is a busy and thriving center that services the greater Los Angeles area. The division includes Trauma Surgery, Emergency Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. Since our new program has started the service enlists 25-30 consults daily. LAC+USC Medical Center is a level 1 American College of Surgeons-approved Trauma Center and is one of the largest and busiest centers in the United States with over 4,500 trauma alone cases per year. In addition, we are located in the center of one of the largest and busiest metropolis in the United States which also brings in a large volume of those who require emergent surgical attention whom we service.
USC Cancer Surgeons
USC Cancer SurgeonsKeck Department of Surgery offers a comprehensive multidisciplinary program in cancer treatment with specialized expertise in complex surgeries and state of the art minimally invasive surgical procedures. Patients may be seen jointly by cancer physicians with expertise in surgery, medical oncology and radiation oncology. A tailored treatment plan optimized to the patient’s cancer is then developed. Our areas of expertise include esophageal, colorectal, liver, pancreas, lung and breast cancer.
USC Comprehensive Aortic Center
Aortic Center at Keck Medical Center of USCThe USC Comprehensive Aortic Center is a quick response program designed to provide emergency transport to our Keck Medicine facility for patients with aortic emergencies. We also offer the most comprehensive program in Southern California specializing in diagnostic imaging, consultation and surgical or endovascular therapy for diseases of the aorta.
Surgical Skills Simulation and Education Center
Surgical Skills Simulation and Education CenterThe USC Surgical Skills Simulation and Education Center encompasses 3 state-of-the-art educational facilities providing the ideal environment to teach fundamental and advanced technical skills and procedures. Based on the philosophy that skills are better learned when afforded the opportunity for deliberate practice in a controlled environment, our Center has become the premier location in Southern California for Surgical Skills Training and Assessment.
