University of Southern California

The Division of Thoracic and Foregut Surgery at the University of Southern California is pleased to offer a 1year Clinical Fellowship in Foregut and Thoracic surgery. The clinical year offers experience in one of the most active and high volume esophageal and foregut units in the United States. The staff of the Division includes 6 full-time attending surgeons with dedicated practices in gastric, esophageal and pulmonary surgery with the support of appropriate surgical house staff. The clinical service at present is doing approximately 30% of the esophagectomies in the state of California (+100 per year) and Clinical Fellows will gain experience with a wide variety of esophageal and gastric pathology and re-operative surgery. This includes extensive experience in laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, esophageal myotomy, partial fundoplications, esophagectomies, open or minimally invasive access approaches to vagal sparing esophagectomy, and other novel procedures. Supervised experience at LAC+USC Medical Center provides the Fellow primary surgical responsibility and an opportunity for first hand patient care in the management of esophageal, gastric and pulmonary disease.
