Jeffrey H. Peters, M.D. Jeffrey H. Peters, M.D., professor of Surgery and chief of the Division of General Surgery at USC University Hospital. He is nationally and Internationally recognized as an expert in surgery of the esophagus and stomach and lectures throughout the world. He has been a leader and a pioneer in the field of minimally invasive surgery and has over 150 publications devoted to the field of esophageal surgery. His research efforts focus on the development of esophageal cancer in patients with Barrett's esophagus and the genesis of esophageal mucosal injury and cellular mutations. Dr. Peters is an active member of The Society of University Surgeons and The Western Surgical Association, and is on the Permanent Scientific Committee of the International Organization for Statistical Studies on Diseases of the Esophagus. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of The Society of Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and assumed the presidency of the Society of American Gastrointestinal endoscopic Surgeons in March 1999.

Dr. Peters earned both his bachelor's and medical degrees from Ohio State University where he was elected to membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Peters received certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1989 and joined the USC faculty in 1991.
