Stomach

The stomach is the reservoir, or receptacle for swallowed food and liquids. The stomach produces acid and begins the process of digesting food. However, it is not essential for life and in some people is removed partially or totally for tumors, ulcers, or dysfunction. In many people it likely contributes to gastroesophageal reflux disease.
