Background:

Dr. Emamaullee is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the USC Keck School of Medicine. Dr. Emamaullee received her B.Sc. in Chemistry (Honors) in 2000 from the University of Alabama, where she also competed on the varsity volleyball team. She completed her Ph.D. in Immunology at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 2005, and her involvement in the clinical transplant program inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She graduated from medical school at the University of Alberta in 2010. During her time in medical school, Dr. Emamaullee was involved in research as JDRF/ASTS funded postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Dr. James Shapiro, director of the Clinical Islet Transplant Program at the University of Alberta. Dr. Emamaullee completed her residency in General Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA in 2015. She returned to the University of Alberta for fellowship training in transplant and hepatobiliary surgery and joined the faculty of USC upon completion, in the Fall of 2017.

Dr. Emamaullee has been involved at the committee level in the Association of Women Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons since 2005. She has been the recipient of numerous awards including the AWS Patricia Numann Medical Student Award and the Canadian Medical Association Award for Young Leaders in Medicine. Dr. Emamaullee’s research interests include living donor liver transplantation, Hepatitis C and its impact on hepatocellular carcinoma, and tolerance strategies to improve allograft survival.
