The USC Division of Upper GI and General Surgery physicians are internationally recognized for their clinical expertise, research and education. Our surgeons, along with a multidisciplinary team of experts, are dedicated to providing compassionate, individually tailored patient care while using innovative, state of the art surgical therapy. Our surgeons at USC employ many diagnostic and therapeutic techniques that are not available at any other center in the region. The team has one of the most experienced minimally invasive surgical teams in the US and specializes in all forms of laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The division is composed of the sections of Upper GI Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Breast / Soft Tissue Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, General Surgery and the Hernia Institute of USC.
UPPER GI SURGERY
The section of Upper GI Surgery is internationally recognized for their research and clinical outcomes in treating benign and cancerous diseases of the esophagus and stomach. At Keck Medical Center of USC, we have pioneered many of the minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of Esophageal Cancer, Barrett’s Esophagus, Gastric Cancer, GERD, Hiatal Hernias, Swallowing Disorders and Gastroparesis. We have one of the highest volumes and best outcomes of complex esophageal and gastric surgeries in Southern California.
BARIATRIC SURGERY
The section of Bariatric Surgery is a premier multidisciplinary program for metabolic and bariatric surgery. Our Metabolic and Bariatric program has one of best outcomes of any program in the region and has consequently been named as a Center of Excellence by Medicare, the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, as well as many insurance companies such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Healthnet, Cigna and several more.
BREAST/SOFT TISSUE & ENDOCRINE SURGERY
The sections ofBreast/Soft tissue and Endocrine Surgery (Surgical Oncology) aim to provide the only comprehensive, multidisciplinary surgical oncology care in the Los Angeles and Southern California region. Patients in need of breast surgery, melanoma or sarcoma surgery, thyroid surgery, parathyroid surgery, or adrenal surgery will be cared for by surgeons who are renowned experts at treating breast cancer, melanoma, sarcoma, thyroid cancer, and adrenal tumors.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY
The section of Minimally Invasive Surgery involves techniques including Laparoscopic, Single Port and Robotic surgery for the treatment of many complex surgical issues. Our team of advanced minimally invasive surgeons are experts in the treatment of biliary (gallbladder) disease, disorders of the spleen, small bowel tumors, and emergency surgery. We are also a tertiary and quaternary referral center for complex surgical issues that are not adequately managed at a community hospital.
HERNIA
The Hernia Institute of USC (HIUSC) offers a multidisciplinary approach for the treatment of a full spectrum of abdominal wall hernia defects. Through a collaborative effort involving pioneering leaders from general surgery as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery, the HIUSC develops a patient-centered approach to treating functionally and aesthetically disabling hernia defects.
