Background

Dr. Caitlin C. Houghton is Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at Keck School of Medicine of USC.  She is an esteemed member of the Upper G.I. and General Surgery and serves patients at Keck, County and Hoag locations.  Caitlin graduated with honors from Wayne State Medical School in Detroit.  She then completed her surgical residency at UC Irvine before heading to UCSD where she completed fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Advanced Endoscopic Surgery.  She is also trained in Robotic Surgery. 

Her clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, and esophageal motility disorders including achalasia. She has been instrumental in starting our Per Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) program at USC. This continues to be an area of interest and expertise.  Additionally, she focuses on treatment of inguinal and incisional/ventral hernias using laparoscopic, robotic and open techniques including component separation.
