Dr. Mitra K. Nadim, holds the title of Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine, Director of the Hypertension Center and Renal System Chair for 2nd year medical students at Keck School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology. Dr. Nadim is certified in Nephrology and is a Specialist in Clinical Hypertension. She was voted a Top Doctor in 2011 by the Pasadena Magazine.
After graduating from UCLA Medical School, Dr. Nadim went to Boston for her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the prestigious Beth Israel Hospital, which is affiliated with Harvard University's School of Medicine. After completing a nephrology fellowship at Brigham and Women's/Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, Dr. Nadim returned to Southern California and currently serves as Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of USC's Hypertension and Renal Disease Center.
Dr. Nadim's major clinical and research interests concerns the diagnosis and management of resistant hypertension. She is available to consult on a wide range of cases of hypertension including, but not limited to, malignant, resistant and renovascular hypertension, hyperaldosteronism, pheochromocytoma, She was one of the National Principal Investigators in the Rheos Pivitol Trial, a multicenter clinical trial which looked at the efficacy and safety of the Rheos system, an implantable baroreflex device, in subjects with resistant hypertension.
In addition to her busy clinical work, she is also the Renal System Chair for Year II Medical Students at the Keck School of Medicine. In recognition of her commitment to teaching, she was awarded the “Outstanding Teaching in Year II Award” for three years (2004, 2008, 2011), “Educational Excellence of the Year II Renal System Award” in 2008 and received the esteemed distinction of “Master Teacher” in 2011.
